What are algal blooms?
Algal Blooms are overgrowths of algae found in both fresh and marine water, which can be green, blue, red or brown. Some of these produce dangerous toxins that can be harmful, but even the nontoxic blooms hurt the environment.
What are the effects of algal blooms?
1) The overgrowth of algae blocks the sunlight from the underwater plants and consumes oxygen that marine life requires, creating a dead zone (marine life dies or leaves the area due to the lack of oxygen).
2) The dangerous toxins they produce can sicken people and animals.
3) Can impact available drinking water sources
